AH34  South Coast, Waterfalls and Glacier Hike All year round

Highlights:
  • Seljalandsfoss waterfall
  • Skógarfoss waterfall
  • Sólheimajökull Glacier
  • Reynisdrangar Cliffs

Tour Description:

Travel through the south Iceland farming lands and to the black sand beaches, thundering waterfalls, powerful volcanoes and majestic glaciers on its south coast.

The first stop is at Seljalandsfoss waterfall where we can walk behind this magnificent wall of water. The tour continues with an easy hike on the ancient ice of Sólheimajökull glacier with a knowledgeable and certified glacier guide.

Then onwards for a leisurely stroll along the black sand beach of Reynisfjara. The beach features stacks of basalt columns that wall off surrounding cliffs scattered with caves.

Offshore you will see Reynisdrangar pillars, basalt rock stacks that rise from the sea. Icelandic legend says they were trolls turned into rock by the rising sun when they came home late after a fishing trip. We round off this great sightseeing tour with a stop at the Skógafoss waterfall.

On a clear day you may have a good view of famous volcanoes, Hekla and Eyjafjallajökull. When we drive under the foothills of Eyjafjallajökull you can get a glimpse of the Westman Islands, rising steeply from the ocean just a few kilometers of the coast.

This tour is a great value and easy with an adventurous twist. Sights are breathtaking and where else in the world can you stand on a glacier ice, walk behind a waterfall and stroll along a volcanic black sand beach in one day?
Iceland Excursions – Gray Line Iceland reserves the right to alter the itinerary if weather conditions change and the glacier walk is cancelled. If this cancellation occurs a visit to the Skogar museum and Vik village is offered.

We took two tours: the Golden Circle Afternoon and the south Shore with Waterfalls and Glacier walk. Everything was extremely well organized and the staff and guides helpful and friendly. I often don't care for tours; too much talking and being run from one sight to another but Iceland Excursions was completely different. We were never rushed- we were given time to take it all in. The guide had interesting points and explanations but gave us time for quiet reflection and a little napping. I will recommend this tour company to all of my friends.

Over a four day period we took 3 trips with Gray Line Iceland - Northern Lights, Golden Circle and South Coast. Pick ups and drop offs were well organised and, of course, the chosen sightseeing points were wonderful. The standard of drivers and guides was second to none.

Gurry was very helpful with both organising the trip. She also quickly adapted to changes. The transfer services were very prompt. Upon arrival to the Glacier we were overwhelmed by the natural beauty of the place. The guide was very positive and friendly and made it into a great experience. All I can let you know it is an amazing experience. Enjoy.

We did this tour at the end of our holiday in November 2012 and it was one of the highlights of our holiday. We booked it as we had some spare money and wanted to make the most of the trip. The hotel where we were staying recommended this tour. We were picked up and taken into the city and transferred to another bus. The tour group size is perfect! There were about 15 people on our tour and we felt this made the tour feel much more personal. we got to know most of our group and it was interesting swapping stories of seeing the Nothern Lights, showing each other pictures and generally having a great time. We stopped several times on the way to the Glacier, we were even offered a stop at Eyjafjallajokull which was very interesting! The hike was gentle and performed and led brilliantly by our guide and made everyone feel very safe. Although I did have a shock when one of my legs went into a 2 foot hole and the rest of me didn't haha. The waterfalls and the black sand beach were amazing touches to the tour and by the end of the day you are shattered! We were dropped off at our hotel and it was worth every single penny. We're coming back to Iceland in June 2014 and we will be using Grayline for every tour we do :D

We truly enjoyed our recent trip to Iceland, an amazing country with unique sightseeing. The Blue Glacier Lagoon tour was a terrific experience: we loved the places visited, the weather was great and our tourguide Linda really made it special and pleasant. We did appreciate her tips on Icelandic culture as much as her jokes and entertaining tales! Among the tours we took during our stay in Iceland, this was by far the best one. We will certainly be back in Iceland soon!

Easter in Iceland is both a religious holiday and a sign that winter is over. The latter usually proves spectacularly wrong, but as long as we get our chocolate Easter egg on Sunday morning, we're ok.
