AH74  Whale Watching & Golden Circle Afternoon 1 Apr 2013 -
30 Sep 2013

Highlights:
  • Whale watching
  • Þingvellir National Park
  • Gullfoss waterfall
  • Geysir hot spring area

Tour Description:

Why not add a Golden Circle Afternoon tour to your Whale Watching tour for a full day of fun? This is a perfect combination of tours AH75 Whale Watching and AH11 Golden Circle Afternoon.

On this whale watching tour you can see the whales in their native environment which is an unforgettable experience.
The local bird life is diverse, including birds as the Puffin, Arctic Tern, Gannet and many varieties of Gull.

After the Whale Watching tour, passengers have time for lunch and a visit to the Whale Exhibition.
Passengers that do not want to walk the 5-10 minutes back to our office and bus terminal are picked up at the harbour at 12:30 for the Golden Circle Afternoon tour, which leaves Reykjavík at 13:00. Those wishing to walk are asked to be at our office at the latest at 12:50.

We start the afternoon tour by visiting Þingvellir National Park, where the Icelandic parliament Alþingi was established in the year 930 AD. Geologically it is remarkable and there you can see tectonic plate boundaries that form a breathtaking scenery.

We also visit the impressive Gullfoss waterfall and the spouting hot springs of Geysir and Strokkur.

Although this trip is a shortened version of our AH12 Golden Circle Classic tour, you will be visiting some of the very best historical sites and natural phenomena in the country. Before we return to Reykjavík we will pass Hveragerði greenhouse village.

Both tours were very good. I only saw one whale close up which was a pity but you cannot book nature to appear in advance, however we did observe other wild life. The golden circle tour took us to the main places geysers, plates and waterfall. The journey felt long because of low cloud so you could not see the countryside. Both guides were informative. I would recommend this double tour as good value.

Amazing, we got to see loads of animals from dolphins, rare sea birds and even the whales. and to top the morning off the afternoon was brilliant too, it was very interersting experiance and the adition of places such as the horse place where we got to get up and close with icelandic horses was the cherry on the cake. The tour guide and driver also know a huge knowledge of iceland and places off the beaten track which they showed us.

yeah! we saw dolphins, but no whales, but seriousness of elding is real, we have another possibility to watch them via complimentary tour. thanx for this. and afternoon? this was sadly fully of rain, so golden circle was gray :-)), sorry, there´s nothing against the gray line... BUT! mr. Swanner was the GOLD of this tour! thanx for him on this trip. he had for us so many informations, it was so savvy talked, with his unique humor, that none of us wanted sleep in bus, despite the weather... . once more thanx! mr. Swanner ... and of course big thanx you, the agency and your operator DEE DEE in the office, with beautiful red colour of her hair and professional handling of our requirements ..:-)

This was a great day that included a lot, but at a good pace. We would have liked to have just met everyone at the whale watching boat after checking in, instead of waiting around to get a 1 minute van ride over. Also, our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable, but did not know when to stop talking. He talked the entire bus ride! It got excessive by the end. Nevertheless, I would defidently recomment this tour to others.

The tour was in general great. Especially the Golden Afternoon tour was well guided and timed. The timing between the two tours was a bit hectic as I needed to get something to eat for the afternoon, but was told that there is no time; I managed to run into the supermarket to buy some sandwiches. It was a little bit disappointing though that I didn't have the chance to see any whales on the Whale Watching tour. Even though I am aware of it that as these are wild animals it is not predictable, but as the advert for the tour indicated high chances of seeing whales it was - as I said - a bit disappointing not see any; text of the advter = "On this fantastic whale watching tour you will observe the whales in their native environment which is an unforgettable experience. We will sail on Faxaflói bay, home of a unique variety of Minke whale, the Humpback, Harbor Porpoise and the White-beaked Dolphins, which are all common sights on this tour. The local bird life is also diverse, including such birds as the Puffin, Arctic Tern, Gannet and many varieties of Gull." All in all I had a fantastic time - thank you for offering this combination!

Thank you for your review and comments. The whale watching has been very successful lately and it unfortunate that you were not able to have the experience of seeing them. Tickets valid for two years are offered whenever whales are not spotted on any given tour, so come back and try again.
