WWS2  Winter Wonderland - South 1 Nov 2013 -
31 Mar 2014

We start our tour from Reykjavík driving towards the East across Hellisheiði moore and down to the South lowlands of Iceland and onwards through Selfoss town and the charming villages of Hella and Hvolsvollur.

In South Iceland we visit Iceland Erupts exhibition located at the foot of the Eyjafjallajökull eruption from 2010 to learn about volcanoes and eruptions in Iceland and watch a short film about the events. From there we continue to the magnificent Skógarfoss waterfall before going to the Sólheimajökull outlet glacier for a glacier hike.

The journey continues over black sand beaches to Skaftafell National Park for dinner and an overnight stay.

Our second day starts with a refreshing walk to Svartifoss waterfall in the national park of Skaftafell. From there we drive along Vatnajökull glacier – the biggest in Europe – towards the Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon. The lagoon started to form in the early 1920s and is getting bigger every year. You will see the many huge blocks of ice that have broken off Vatnajökull glacier to form an incredible landscape in the freezing water*.

Heading back towards Reykjavik city we make a short visit dow to the picturesque Reynisfjara shore and take walk behind the amazing Seljalandsfoss waterfall.
If the weather conditions are favourable we extend the tour into the evening and go searching for the Northern Lights!

Easter in Iceland 2014
Easter in Iceland is both a religious holiday and a sign that winter is over.
